Fide Fashion Week: Asian Couture Evening

Last's night's Fide Fashion Week was mindblowing. I attended the event with Samy BonBon and doesn't his Maison Martin Margiela H&M mirror leggings look so amaing? The atmosphere, the crowd, the clothes! Every single show kept me at the edge of my seat as I watched aloof models sauntering down the glass walkway.

The Asian Couture Evening presented designers Guo Pei, Asava, Torgo and Barney Cheng.

This whole week, Fide Fashion Week will be hosting FRENCH COUTURE WEEK, the only couture week outside of Paris since it's establishment in 1868.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take more pictures last night but I promise to try taking more for the rest of Fide Fashion Week!

Guo Pei

Asia's most recognised Haute Couturier and highlight of the evening, Guo Pei, presented a breath-taking and ethereal show, displaying her complicated and intricate costume designs, incredible shoes and the intricate detailing from accessories to headdresses. An undisputed talent in Couture, her gowns are every girl's dream and to be able to don one of her dresses will be a dream come true! Guo Pei's design is based on the Dragon Story and her ability to tell the story through her designs and creations.

The first picture happens to be Guo Pei's favourite dress! It reportedly took Guo Pei more then 50,000 hours to sew on every individual gold thread. That's more then 5 YEARS to make one dress! Oh dear me...even if you don't know Guo Pei, surely you have to admire and respect her hardwork and dedication!

My favourite is the last dress shown. For some reason, the dress gives off a very regal impression, even with its stiff front plating secured with crossed ribbons bare backed. I simply just LOVE it!

ASAVA

ASAVA's collection last night gave me the impression of "a cat fight on the catwalk". An emerging brand from Thailand, ASAVA's designs centres on sophistication for women of today's fast-paced world. The whole show was basked in darkness and flashing lights and the soundtrack made me excited and nervous as the same time. Hanging on the edge of my seat, I watched as models stalked across the glass floor, shoulders bumping into each other roughly, displaying an edge of contempt in their movements. It was a terrifyingly exhilarating experience and I completely loved it!

Torgo

True to his name(literally), Ochirjantsan Bold's collection was bold and strong, artfully showing the beauty of Mongolia. Torgo's show was the most memorable one for me as I can remember the flawless synchronism, the intelligent placing of his pieces and the raw beauty of his designs. Mr Bold spent years throughout his career researching on the various ethnic groups in Mongolia where his inspiration stems from. His talent in fusing traditional Mongolia clothing with contemporary European clothing as well as contributing to the cultural arena earned him much recognition and appreciation. I for one will be looking out for his future designs!

Barney Cheng

Barney Cheng started his on design studio on the year I was born (1993). Now, he has become one of Hong Kong's most renowned fashion designers. Perhaps one of his most recognised works his interpretation of the modern "cheongsam". Barney's gowns emits elegance and poise and the uncanny fushion of tradional cheongsam and european couture. What I liked most about this show though was the styling of the models. I thought the beautiful buns and coifs looked very chic and really brought out the grace of his beautiful pieces.

Overall, the night was fun and exciting and I met quite a lot of prominent figures in the fashion industry! One of the most notable figure was Daniel Boey. The conversation with him revealed his experience and advice about working in the fashion industry. It was an honour and joy to speak with him. That is also how Sam and I got onto his guest list. (hurhur!)
Now I have to go get ready for tonight's Japan Couture Evening!
This is my longest post yet and I have no prior experience in covering fashion events.
Do drop a comment to advise or criticise me and thank you so much for taking the time off to read this!
