Fide Fashion Week: Special Couture Presentation (Part 1)

Thomas Wee

Although I did not make it to the Special Couture Presentation, I decided to cover it anyway because I'm very dedicated to covering very single show and I did promise to do so. From the pictures I've seen, Thomas Wee was certainly not a let down. The opening design for the Thomas Wee show is shown in the first picture. Apparently, Daniel Boey liked it so much that he wore it with a white shirt the very next day!
There is so much masculinity and personality in his collection, I wish I was there to see it personally!

Fide Fashion Week: Japan Couture Evening (Part 4)

Yumi Katsura

Yumi Katsura's show was the last and also the longest. The beginning of the show displayed oriental designs with heavy influences of Japanese culture and also her iconic couture wedding dresses. Although the dresses were gorgeous, I have to admit that I grew a little restless and wanted more variety. Thankfully, the collection had a twist that saved me from bordem.
I'd like to call them the White Swan and Black Swan gown because they look so regal and elegant that surely it has to be! My curiousity and excitement was piqued when we saw what Tiara called, "Cinderella and her evil stepsisters". "Cinderella" has this simple big gown made of wires and I thought it looked quite uncomfortable. However, the real highlight of the show was revealed when the lights were turned off and we were basked in darkness.
There in the centre of the catwalk, the dresses were lit up by a thousand wires and the scene was so magnificent that all I could hear was the satisfying chorus of gasps, including "Oh!" and "Wow!" and "Oh My God!".
My exclamation was an unglamourous combination of three. Now, Katsura's spectacular ending was all the talk as we filed out into the cocktail reception and her show was undoubtedly the most exciting of the night!

Junko Shimada

The second show of the night introduced Junko Shimada's creations. There was a heavy emphasis on fabric play which I certainly can't complain about! Now, the very first thing that caught my eyes were the turbans. Yes, the TURBANS. Since hats are making a come back and millinery is revived, I think turbans are a very bold and intelligent addition to the collection.  As aptly commented by Tiara while our eyes devoured the show, this collection has a very modern gypsy feel to it.
My favourite parts of the collection? Definitely the pant suits and the orange hooded coat! Also, doesn't the model from the last picture look familiar?
*wink*

SOMARTA

Somarta opened for Japan Couture evening and I am one lucky girl to have made it in time! I was almost not allowed in, but since the show technically hasn't started, the uber nice ushers decided to sneak me in and even got me a seat!
The most striking part of Somarta's design were the hosiery and the incredible details of her dresses. Just look at how complicated the design is for only the stockings! The pairing of each leg-wear with each unique dress was impeccable and impactful. Even Somarta herself is wearing her own design!
You probably can't see it, but the shoes are Heel-Less Heels that resembles hoofs. Now THAT just made those models look like complete ethereal and mystical creatures!

Same and I with the beautiful Noah Naima

Saw the Emcee and thought he looked a little lost, so we snapped a quick photo!
Of course, his fabulousness, Daniel Boey! He was such a gracious host and even invited us on his guest list!

What luck! Met Depression's very own creative team, Kenny Lim and Andrew Loh, along with their lovely friend.
*Pst* Kenny said I had a nice smile! And now I'm giddy with joy!

I have to thank the rain for stalling the event for a while as I was running late. I did manage to squeeze in for the first show and even got a seat! What a wonderful evening with completely gorgeous designs by Japan's renowned couturiers. Stay tuned as I sift out the best looks from the runway!
(Each designer will be posted individually as I don't think long posts are nice.)
